DRC: Katanga Mining repatriates part of its staff
The mining company Katanga Mining, the Congolese subsidiary of Swiss commodities trader Glencore, said at the weekend that it wanted to repatriate 350 of its employees after the commissioning of one of its copper and cobalt processing units in Lualaba province (south-eastern DRC) was delayed due to logistical restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The affected staff, Indian workers, are currently in Lubumbashi, awaiting return flights to their home country. As for the actual start of operations of the plant, this should take place in the second half of 2020, the management of Katanga Mining said.
